How it started
In 2009, Harald Feldmann's mother was diagnosed with a form of dementia. This brought about a lot of uncertainty and a need for care. A search for medication did not yield results but a project called fold.it from the University of Washington held promise. Investigators were looking for ways to change and predict the structure of proteins. These likely hold clues as to the cause as well as the remedy of numerous diseases.
During the course of several years, Harald learned how to design proteins that may contribute to new medication against dementia and other diseases. The knowledge gained from this project was published in Nature.
After his mother passed away, Harald founded the Truus Schut Foundation in order to use the acquired knowledge for projects that hopefully will stop dementia and other diseases.
